A little afternoon poetry prompted by the The Sunday Whirl.
—
As I traverse sunny streets I think of you
Your shadow walks beside me, your memory an apparition
The march of time gone by echoes like the tap of my high heels on cobblestone
The whistle of an arriving train reminds me that things change
How can the future stretch out so endless before me
And the emptiness of it all make me feel faint?
“I love you.”
Words whispered with a shaky voice
Falling from my lips and lifting on a breeze
All I wanted was to share my finite existence with you
To allow you to master all of me
Or at least the parts of me I had
I create a special area in my mind to keep you forever
A tender place where I hold your memory close to me
Because nothing except your love will make me warm
The calls of the song birds mock my sadness
The end of winter, blooming spring
Only some things that die come to life again.
And selfishly I wish I could have you here with me.

Thanks. 🙂
I have a special fondness for sunny streets of cobblestone.
I agree with the yearning expressed here, the scent, the sight, the sound and the touch that magnify with their.absence
Beautifully phrased to raise longing.for the impossible.
I’m echoing your thoughts as I read… and remember…
I love all the sounds throughout… wonderful poem, Cara.

I enjoyed the lines “Words whispered with a shaky voice Falling from my lips and lifting on a breeze.” You capture hope and longing, yearning and despair so well.
Lovely poem though full of sadness and longing.
I remember each of these feelings, and you touched them softly with your words. Echoes that make me what I have become. Thank you,
Elizabeth
