The distorted image of her body cleared, but the next blink brought it back.
Grotesque. Lopsided smile, crooked teeth, bent nose, uneven breasts, bloated stomach, blotchy skin, ugly cunt.
She touched her face as the image cleared again. Smooth skin was under her fingertips and in the mirror.
The skin seemed to peel away, dripping down to hang like wax that she couldn’t put back.
Shaking her head, she dropped her hands, her normal appearance winking in and out as she stared.
“Stop it,” she shouted at the antique mirror.
Her image simply smiled back at her, flashing from ugly to beautiful in rapid succession.
“Mirror, mirror, on the wall,” her reflection spoke to her with distorted lips. “Who’s the fairest of them all? Is it you, Snow White?”
She lifted the first thing she touched, her ornate perfume bottle, and hurled it at the glass. Her reflection cleared seconds before the pane cracked, shattering into a million pieces.
She wouldn’t let the whispered words haunt her anymore.
