Twelve Week Challenge

I’m suffering from writer’s block. It happens to me every so often, but it’s been a week-long course and I’m getting a little irritated.

Rather than resort to another week of poetry, I’ve decided to take up the challenge presented by Panty Parade at Off Go The Panties. She offers a way to kick the writer’s block (and the whining) as well as meet a few writing/blogging goals.

I recently listed a few goals I’d like to accomplish in the next 3 months, but I’ll target three major writing ones.

  1. Edit 3 stories. I’m patently awful at follow through when it comes to editing stories. My aids to help me meet this goal are joining a writing/critique group next month (learning how to accept concrit better), setting a schedule for editing over the next few weeks (to be determined), and having someone hold me accountable. Open to suggestions on helping me conquer this one.
  2. Write something totally outside my comfort zone with a 10,000 word count. I haven’t quite figured out how to tackle this goal.
  3. Read one of my stories out loud for a small crowd. I’m hoping to make this happen after my move, but ways to assist in follow through include reading small sections to a close friend, volunteering to read during critique sessions, and scouting out coffee houses with open mic nights.

Good enough for now. I considered making one goal beefing up readership, but I’m not sure that’s even possible.

I only have two official blogging buddies filledandfooled and LSAM. So I’m looking for another willing participant. Or if taking up this 12 week task is a bit too arduous, I’m always looking for cheerleaders. An encouraging word (or a hard spanking) via email or on posts with the Twelve Week Challenge title should suffice in that case.

I’ve already looked up my creative style, but I’ll save my discoveries for next week. Wish me luck.

Encouraging words abound from my side if they help – from one writer in need of motivation to another!
All the best, I will also in my own way take inspiration from you and try and do as much of these 3 challenges as I’m able to manage.
    Cheers!

I can do cheerleading…: ) Life is a bit erratic at the moment and day-to-day is a challenge, so I know I couldn’t hang 12 weeks. Sounds like you have some very worthy goals though.

I’m hoping I can hang on and manage these. That’s why I only aspired to 3 big ones. Anymore and I knew the odds weren’t in my favor. Hopefully this makes me accomplish something.

I’d be happy to cheer you on but, sadly, I have not been keeping up with my existing goals as well as I should. You’ve picked some wonderful goals, though! Maybe next time I’ll be able to join in!

Wish you the best! I think all 3 goals listed here are manageable – I believe that you can totally do this! One thing I’ve heard about goals though (and this is just a suggestion), is that you need to have a solid date… “the next three months” isn’t definite enough. Name a date. Think of it this way – in a race you just run until you get to the finish, but when you can SEE the finish you give it everything you’ve got.

I love no.3 and would volunteer for that in a heartbeat.

I would like to be your mentor (whatever that means). I’ve also offered to help G and LSAM. I don’t know that I’m the right person for the job, but I feel like it’s the most I can do and I really want to help you!! Call me crazy, but it might work out really well 🙂 xx Hy

I feel a little left out, as I’m sure many of your readers do, by 03.

Rather than give this pleasure to a room full of strangers, why not record a reading of a story for us! Post it on the blog, leave a link to a site where you can plant it, invite comment requests for one to be emailed to us. Or read it at that holiday-with-Cara we are all going to have.

Doing this, you could read one of your stories that would have you blushing in public. Or it could allow you to polish your presentation to within an inch of its life. Maybe the start of a series!

I’ve been thinking about recording myself for months. Nerves stop me because I’m not sure how I’d sound saying words like cunt and cock. I don’t want you to feel left out because I appreciate my readers. I’ll definitely give this more thought and I appreciate the suggestion.
